CGN CHARGES TINUBU TO APPOINT CHRISTIAN AS COMMUNICATIONS MINISTER

 

The Computer Guild of Nigeria (CGN) has fervently called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint a Christian Communications Minister in his upcoming cabinet. The CGN highlights the fact that during the eight-year political dispensation of President Muhammadu Buhari, both Communications Ministers appointed were Muslims. Barrister Adebayo Shittu and the recently outgone Communications Minister, Prof. Isa Pantami, were both followers of the Islamic faith.

In a press release issued today, Wole Adedoyin, the President of the Computer Guild of Nigeria, expressed the organization's concern about the lack of religious diversity in the leadership of the Ministry of Communications. Adedoyin stated, "We believe that it is crucial for the Nigerian government to uphold religious inclusivity and fairness in its appointments. The continuous appointment of Muslim Communications Ministers neglects the significant contributions that Christians can make in shaping the country's communication sector."

How Wole Adedoyin Trained over 5000 primary school pupils in Computer Operations free of charge in Oyo State

 

HOW WOLE ADEDOYIN TRAINED OVER 5000 PRIMARY SCHOOL PUPILS IN COMPUTER OPERATIONS FREE OF CHARGE IN OYO STATE

 

Wole Adedoyin, a passionate advocate for community development through information and communication technology (ICT), has made significant contributions to education in Nigeria through his various projects. One of his most notable projects is the Society for Microsoft Practitioners (SFMP), which he founded in 2007 to train over 5000 primary school students and teachers on Computer Operations free of charge. The project, tagged "ICT for Community Development," was a collaboration between the SFMP, SUBEB, and Education Secretaries in Ibadan North Local Government, Ibadan North West Local Government, and Ibadan North East Local Government. The SFMP project targeted several primary schools, including United Brothers (Inalende), UNA Mission School (Inalende), The Apostolic Primary School (Agala), St. Michael Primary School (School 1-6), St. Stephen’s Primary School, Chief Agbaje Primary School (1-5), Salvation Army School (Yemetu), St. Paul Primary School (Yemetu), New Eden C&S, St. John Primary School, Baptist Primary School (1-5), and many others. The initiative aimed to provide free computer literacy training to students who lacked access to ICT facilities in their schools and communities.

The success of the SFMP project earned it a nomination for the 2019 World Summit Information System (WSIS) prizes contest. The WSIS prizes contest was created by the United Nations to evaluate projects and activities that leverage ICTs to advance sustainable development. This nomination was a testament to the impact that the project had on the community, and it further motivated Wole Adedoyin to continue his advocacy for ICT education in Nigeria.

In addition to the SFMP project, Wole Adedoyin has also been instrumental in organizing the Girls in ICT Day in Nigeria. This initiative, backed by ITU Member States, aims to encourage girls and young women to consider studies and careers in the growing field of information and communication technologies. In 2019, Wole Adedoyin extended his ICT training project to over 30 public secondary schools in Oyo and Lagos States. This project involved Computer-Based Testing (CBT) and aimed to equip students with digital skills that are necessary for the 21st-century workplace. The project's success earned it a nomination for the 2020 Equals Awards, which recognizes organizations and individuals working to help girls and women gain equal internet access, digital skills, and opportunities in the tech industry.

Apart from his projects, Wole Adedoyin has also contributed to the development of the Nigerian ICT industry through his work with the Nigerian Content Consultative Forum ICT (NCCF-ICT) and the Association for Information and Communication Technology on Local Content (ICT LOCAL). These organizations aim to promote local content development in the ICT sector and empower Nigerian youths with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital economy.

Wole Adedoyin's advocacy for ICT education in Nigeria has not gone unnoticed. He has received several accolades and recognitions for his contributions to the ICT industry in Nigeria. In 2018, he was awarded the "ICT Youth Ambassador Award" by the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) for his outstanding contributions to the growth of the Nigerian ICT industry. He has also been recognized by the Oyo State government for his exceptional contributions to education in the state.

CGN urges President Buhari to probe Pantami over uproar with Abike Dabiri

CGN URGES PRESIDENT BUHARI TO PROBE PANTAMI OVER UPROAR WITH ABIKE DABIRI

The Computer Guild of Nigeria has berated Sheikh Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy in Nigeria over uproar with Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.

Earlier this week, Abike Dabiri-Erewa exposed how the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ibrahim Isah Pantami, allegedly chased her staff away from their office at the Nigeria Communications Commission, NCC, with armed men and locked up their personal items. 

The Computer Guild of Nigeria (CGN) in a statement by the National President of the organization, Wole Adedoyin described Dr. Sheik Pantami as a jobless and unserious minister and therefore urged President Muhammadu Buhari to probe his latest action.

According to the Statement, “Since the outburst of Covid-19 Pandemic in Nigeria, We’ve not seen any positive contributions of the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy headed by Sheik Pantami in containing the Virus. With despair lingering and the world in disarray, had it not been for effective and advanced technology solutions, China would have been staring at an unmanageable crisis. China illustrates this case. By mustering resources at its disposal and deploying the latest technology, the country has mitigated the effects of the virus to a significant extent and profiled people at risk. Today, several affected countries are looking at the Chinese model of best use of technology to save their populations in this race against time”

“China, utilizing its sophisticated and expansive surveillance network for public good, the Chinese government joined hands with tech giants Alibaba and Tencent to develop a color-coded health rating system that is tracking millions of people daily. The smartphone app was first deployed in Hangzhou in collaboration with from Alibaba. It assigns three colors to people — green, yellow and red — on the basis of their travel and medical histories. In the industrial hub of Shenzhen, a similar software was created by Tencent.”

“Whether a person should be quarantined or allowed in public spaces was decided based on the color code. Citizens had to log into the app using pay wallet services like Alibaba’s Alipay, Ant’s wallet, etc. Only those people who were assigned a green color code could be allowed in public spheres after using the designated QR code at metro stations, offices and other public places. There were checkpoints at most public places where the code and a person’s body temperature was checked. More than 200 Chinese cities were using this system.”

“In Nigeria, nothing of such happened. Instead of using technology to contain Covid-19 virus, Sheik Pantami is going about fighting over a Complex.”

CGN finally called on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe into Pantami’s action and bring any culprit into book.

The Computer Guild of Nigeria (CGN), whose national headquarters is in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital has warned the current Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare and the recently appointed Poster Master General of NIPOST, Dr. Ismail Adewusi  to learn from the mistakes of the trio Barr. Adebayo Shitu, Hon. Saheed Fijabi and Senator Abdull-Fatai Buhari who all from Oyo State were given juicy appointments in the telecommunications and ICT sectors of the country but ended up performing woefully during the first term tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari.

This was contained in a release issued and signed by the President of the Guild, Mr. Wole Adedoyin in Ibadan after an emergency meeting summoned to access the contributions and impacts of the communications ministry in the Southwestern region of the country in the last four years of the first term tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari.

It will be recalled that the trio, Honourable Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, former  Chairman House of Representatives' Committee on Telecommunications, Abdulfatai Buhari, a sitting Senator and former Chairman, Senate committee on ICT & Cyber Crime and Barr. Abdur-Raheem Adebayo Shittu former Honourable Minister of Communications of the Federal Republic of Nigeria held mouth-watering positions in the communication and Telecommunications sectors of the country yet their impacts could not be traced and felt in their state.

The Computer Guild of Nigeria however admonished the current Minister of Youth and  Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare and the newly appointed Postmaster General of NIPOST, Dr. Ismail Adewusi to learn from the mistakes of the trio who at the end of their national service had nothing to show in their state.

CGN warns President Buhari to put a round peg in a round hole when choosing country’s Communication Minister

CGN WARNS PRESIDENT BUHARI TO PUT A ROUND PEG IN A ROUND HOLE WHEN CHOOSING COUNTRY’S COMMUNICATION MINISTER

The Computer Guild of Nigeria (CGN) on Sunday warned President Muhammadu Buhari to be very careful and selective when choosing the next Communication Minister for his second term political administration.

This was contained in a press release issued and signed by the President of the Computer Guild of Nigeria (CGN), Wole Adedoyin in Lagos on Sunday.

According to the Guild, “The first term tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari had nothing good to write home about in the area of Information Communication and Technology when compared to the impact made during the regime of President Goodluck Jonathan when Dr. Mrs. Mobolaji Johnson headed the Information Communication and Technology Ministry”.

“President Buhari should stop playing politics with the Ministry of Information Communication and Technology, how can a Barrister of law be appointed to head such fragile ministry, has the ministry turned to Law Chamber? We want competent, skilled, proficient, capable and an achiever who has contributed enormously to the development of the country’s Information Communication and Technology (ICT) rather than making another irrelevant professional to head the Ministry.”

“President Buhari should know that Barrister Adebayo Shitu is a failed experiment. Such experiment shouldn’t happen again. The country’s ICT performance is not improving when compared to the foreign and other African communication ministries. Barrister Shitu is a wrong peg in a right hole and we hope this type of mistake committed by President Muhammadu Nuhari wont happened again.”

Computer Guild of Nigeria finally commended other ICT stakeholders in the country for their competency, professional conducts and patient to withstand the current problems facing the country’s communication ministry.
